World Series Game 1 Recipe (Who's Gonna' Join Me?)

Layered Dip

A fantastic layered dip featuring black beans, cream cheese, red onion, Monterey Jack cheese and Raspberry Chipotle Salsa.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz. Black beans, drained
  • 8 oz. Cream cheese, cut thin
  • 1 small Red onion, chopped
  • 1 jar Robert Rothschild Farm Raspberry Chipotle Salsa
  • 8 oz. Monterey Jack cheese, grated
  • Robert Rothschild Farm Tortilla Chips
  • Directions
    1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. In oven-safe casserole or quiche dish, layer ingredients as listed above starting with black beans. Bake in the oven for 20 to 30 minutes or until bubbly. Serve with Tortilla Chips.
Just a note:  You can use any type of salsa you like but I prefer the fruit ones. The suggested raspberry salsa is awesome! I'm going to try it this time with Paul Newman's pineapple salsa and see how I like it. My favorite tortilla chip to use is the Frito's SCOOPS. Enjoy and let me know how you like it in the comments below. Go Rays!

It's FINALLY Fall At My House

I have been meaning to decorate for fall at my house since Labor Day but never got around to it. Can't do it when it is 90 degrees outside. Just doesn't feel right! So it was a little bit cooler outside when I went to leave for church this morning so I thought today might be the day! It is a beautiful day out, lots of sunshine and a warm breeze but not chilly like up north. Fall for us usually doesn't come until Thanksgiving or so. Might get a bit nippy for Halloween if we are lucky. But the thing that made me do this today is this:  When the Tampa Bay Rays started their ALCS with Boston I kept saying to myself: "Now this is what fall is all about! You need to get your stuff out! Maybe if you do they will win!". So they won some games without me doing it, but I am hoping this will be the clincher and we will move on to the World Series tonight in Game 7. There's only one October! And Cinderella needs to make it to her ball for the "big dance!". Go Rays!

My Plea To See A Baseball Game With Third Day Next Year

Since it is October 3rd and us Gomers are supposed to blog about Third Day on the third day, I thought it might be a fun idea to incorporate my favorite band and my love for baseball into one post. Of course, October means playoff baseball and the World Series. Even though I am a die-hard Braves fan, since they have LONG been out of it for this year, I am hoping our hometown Tampa Bay Rays can pull it off and go all the way to the World Series and bring it home!

So, what does baseball have to do with Third Day? As Mac and Mark have stated they love baseball and the Braves too. They said they try to catch a game if their touring schedule will allow it during the summer in whatever baseball city they happen to be in or at Turner Field when they are home. I have no idea what the touring schedule will be next summer but here's hoping they come play the Tampa Bay area when the Rays are at home. I don't recall seeing Tropicana Field on their list of ballparks they have visited. The list is quite impressive but I don't think we were on it!

To make it easy here are the home weekends for the team for 2009. This is an early schedule and no times have been announced yet, but they tend to do day games on Thursdays and Sundays. I think that would be a cool contest or charity auction to spend a day with Third Day and the Rays at the ballpark! Just a dream I have over and over again and thought I would share...

April 16-19 (Chicago White Sox)
April 30-May 3 (Boston Red Sox)
May 14-17 (Cleveland Indians)
May 29-31 (Minnesota Twins)
June 11-14 Washington Nationals)
June 25-28 (Florida Marlins)
July 9-12 (Oakland Athletics)
July 31-August 2 (Kansas City Royals)
August 14-16 (Toronto Blue Jays)
August 20-23 (Texas Rangers)
September 3-6 (Detroit Tigers)
September 18-20 (Toronto Blue Jays)
October 1-4 (New York Yankees)

Just a sad note to this post:  Our beloved Braves are NOT coming to Tampa next year!! I think that's 3 years in a row now. Oh well! I think I'm going to get tickets to see the Rangers and Josh Hamilton. What a great story this guy has to tell. Now about the weather in Florida in October....

Tuesday's are busy so here's my comments for today

First of all a big thank you to @apostlethatroks. Your tweet to @marklee3D made my day! I was stunned to see what you wrote. I was just using the next great online application of Posterous to make my Twitter life a little easier. Imagine that? I gave Mark an idea! Who knows whether or not he saw it. But thanks just the same!

@silly4him, @janetrn, @corrine_MamaG, @kellygirl27,  @auntgomer and @shabbychica I cannot tell you how excited I am for all your Texas and Oklahoma shows this weekend. I think I feel more excited than I did and will be for my own shows! I love hearing all the plans, arrangements, calls, etc. that go in to such an undertaking. Ya'll will have loads of fun!

Special for @Corrine_MamaG If you don't want to miss the debate why don't you do a reverse concert call? Since THAT is how most of us will spending our Thursday night, I'll call you and let you listen to some of the debate. Oh yeah, I guess there is such a thing as TIVO but you will probably be so wore out after all the excitement you won't want to watch!

@marklee3D Can you get Abbie to remake her gravel video if it was lost on the first phone? Or has she moved on to more mature subject matter?

@rhonda_ What are we going to do while everyone else is having fun in Texas?

For all those that are sick, I am pleading the healing blood of Jesus over all of you from this moment forward.

As one of my other favorite musicians, Bryan Duncan, says:  So there's that!

2nd Try

This will be my second try at Posterous. I did my first post correctly but it did not show up on Twitter or my Tumblr. So here goes:

Fall is always a crazy time for me. We start to get really busy at work. New TV schedules to work around. Time change always messes me up for about two weeks. Baseball playoffs and World Series is mixed in there in October. New Bible study starting Saturday. Now I am trying to get healthier and lose some weight (10 pounds by Third Day show on November 15 and 30 more by the time I turn 40 on April 10, 2009!) so that throws exercising and grocery shopping, etc. in to the pot too.

I love going through everybody's Twitter's each day but lately it's been 15 plus pages each night after work just to read it all. That's not commenting or anything. I would be lost if I just stopped because I have made so many dear Gomer (and not) friends there that I love to "chat" with. So instead of getting behind and feeling like I don't love you all, here's my plan. As I go through the tweets, I will take notes and just do a Posterous post that will HOPEFULLY show up on Twitter (if it doesn't I'll do a tiny URL) and put your Twitter name (i.e @Corrine_MamaG) and say whatever I want to say to you for that day. Sure beats 140 characters! But DO NOT get upset or mad if you don't get mentioned, OK? It's just my way of saying "Hey I'm thinking about you!". If you are interested in what someone else said to me look up their page on Twitter. Might not be every day I do this but just as a last resort. With that said:

@gatorlisa Thanks for the info. about the numbers. Of course, they make sense now. I can't say enough about Tim Tebow. And yes, I listened to David Cook's preview single. I voted YES! Marked November 18th on my calendar. Been wondering when the record was going to come out.

@apostlethatroks  Your "bated breath" (breathless like Scarlett O'Hara) comment cracked me up. Remember, I'm a huge Gone With The Wind fan (GWTW in DawnGWTW).

@JB_Launching Pad How's this for productive? I know you are just an eavesdropper on most of my stuff that's not baseball or Braves related but I always enjoy your stuff. Very much looking forward to the Rays playoff run. It takes a lot to get this town excited but this might just do it!

@shabbychica  Young lady, you have been my motivation to do this silly diet thing. Your steps/calories/fat intake etc. posts really shows your determination. You can't stop now! But I do a "cheat day" when I can have something yummy or more than I normally eat and I only exercise 5 times a week. My fir5st few weeks are spent just building up my metabolism. I can already feel a difference in my energy level and it's only been a week of trying. So keep it up and I promise I won't do any more pictures of cinnamon buns!

@kellygirl27 My new DWTW buddy! Tonight I had to do double duty. I was watching the results show live and in between commercials watched last nights show (I had to watch the premiere of the Mentalist). Crazy! Now it's set to record on the computer if I miss it. BTW, what is SLBT?

@mindyhere Congrats on your niece!

@onajourney I know you are probably still upset about your Grams passing away but I just had to share how much your posts encouraged me with my Grama. It's really another blog in itself but my visit with her last night was one of the best I've had in months. Just know that you are loved and I think about you often even if I don't fully understand your CRAZY life. God is the one that needs to be in charge and it looks like you are letting HIM.

Well that was fun! I feel like I did my own liner notes for an album. Will try to keep up with everybody tomorrow.

Dawn

My First Blog Post on Posterous

Another date in my life I will look back on and say "It's that guy on the left from Third Day that made me do it!". Pre-posterous I know. We will give this a shot!
